National Geoportal - gateway to slovak SDI

Main Author: Slovenskà Agentùra zivotnèho Prostredia

Description: SAZP operates National Geoportal providing access to spatial data to public, proffesional organisations and public administration through intuitive web application. Idea behind National Geoportal is to create strong focal point of spatial data access for day to day use. Geoportal is built on strong components working together in integrated solution. Main components include content management system, user register, catalogue service, map client and catalogue client where common denominator is hopefully easiness to use. Our experience says that even the most prominent feature of solution is obscured by inavailability of interesting data, so now our main focus is to disseminate goal and usefullnes of National geoportal among principal data provider in country. This is the reason we have loosened original requirement to provide only harmonised data through National Geoportal and the reason we have shifted more effort from technical aspects to organisational aspects and needs. As for now the National Geoportal is available only in slovak language, our plan is to extend it also in english. Technical solution of actual National Geoportal is based on Czech National Geoportal operated by CENIA which is our long-term partner in many areas including SDI.
